Laurina Paperina was born in Rovereto (Trento) in 1980, where she currently lives and works. She completed her studies at the Art Institute of Rovereto and at the Academy of Fine Arts, Verona, Italy.
The work of Laurina Paperina is developed mainly through drawing, installations, video-animation and painting. The topics present in her work are a sort of parallel reality to the world in which we live, populated by false myths and legends, where heroes and anti-heroes of our day are revisited in an ironic and at times, irreverent way. It is an elaboration born by summarizing the culture that comes from the world of Internet and television, generating a complex set of elements that are transformed into an apparent chaos, but which allow for a glimpse of recognizable forms.
Laurina Paperina has exhibited her works internationally, including solo and group exhibitions in galleries, foundations, museums and public spaces: The Elisabeth Foundation for the Arts, New York, USA; Stadtgalerie, Kiel, Germany; Triennale di Milano, Italy; Palazzo della Permanente, Milan, Italy; MART – Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea, Rovereto, Italy; CCA Kunsthalle, Mallorca, Spain; Centro Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporaneo, Victoria-Gasteiz, Spain; Museo Pecci, Milan, Italy; Kunsthaus Essen, Germany ; The Royal Standard – Liverpool Biennale, UK; Janco Dada Museum, Haifa, Israel; École supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Nimes, France; JM Kohler Art Center, Sheboygan (WI), USA; Museo Madre, Naples, Italy; The Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles, USA; FRAC Languedoc Roussilon, Montpellier, France; Hunterdon Museum of Art, Clinton, NJ, USA; Kunst Merano Arte, Italy; Galleria Comunale d’Arte Contemporanea, Monfalcone, Italy; Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice, Italy; Galleria Civica di Arte Contemporanea di Trento, Italy).
